Kaminario and Fusion-io Collaborate to Deliver Enterprise-class All Solid-State SAN Storage

Kaminario K2 storage embeds Fusion-io technology, addressing enterprises' I/O- and latency-bound applications

NEWTON, Mass. — September 13, 2011 — Kaminario, a leading provider of high performance, all solid-state SAN storage for accelerating critical business applications, today announced that it is teaming up with Fusion-io (NYSE: FIO), a provider of a shared data decentralization platform, to develop and market the next-generation Kaminario K2 storage, the industry's first all solid-state SAN storage.

The Kaminario K2 storage, architected from the ground up as an all solid-state, high performance, highly available shared SAN storage solution, meets the demand from enterprises looking to dramatically improve the performance of high I/O and latency sensitive applications. The K2 significantly cuts the cost and footprint of legacy SAN storage while providing substantially greater application performance.

As part of the companies' collaboration, Kaminario will incorporate the Fusion ioDrive Duo as a memory accelerator in its all solid-state SAN storage and its Scale-out Performance Storage Architecture (SPEAR). Kaminario and Fusion-io will also team up to bring the Kaminario K2 family of products into joint customer environments. These combined efforts reinforce the companies' commitment to remove the barriers enterprises currently face in obtaining high performance and highly available SAN storage at a price point that makes sense.

"Today's businesses need enterprise-class solutions to meet the demands of I/O- and latency-bound applications such as OLTP and databases," said Jim Dawson, executive vice president worldwide sales, Fusion-io. "Kaminario and Fusion-io have combined Fusion's solid-state technology with Kaminario's self-healing high availability and an all solid-state SAN storage architecture to deliver unsurpassed performance and enterprise-grade reliability, at a highly competitive price point."

The results of this collaboration have been demonstrated by a number of enterprises such as Traiana, an ICAP company, which operates the industry-standard post-trade platform for electronically processing over-the-counter foreign exchange, exchange-traded derivatives, Contracts for Difference, and cash equities trades. Traiana's trade processing infrastructure is based on an application server, Oracle database server and network attached storage system. Based on the Kaminario K2's outstanding performance, Traiana chose to put its Oracle database on the recently announced K2-H. As a result, Traiana saw a 150 percent increase in trading transactions and a 40x reduction in latency. "We were looking for a storage solution with a reliable, high-availability architecture to handle our growing trading volume and to improve our system utilization," said Rafi Vasserman, general manager and EVP of Traiana R&D. "The Kaminario K2 gave us the ability to process 150 percent more transactions while also freeing-up our system and storage resources. We see this as a huge benefit."

Kaminario's collaboration with Fusion-io is one of many important advances in Kaminario's market expansion this year. The company also recently signed a worldwide reseller agreement in which Dell Computer will market and sell the Kaminario K2 directly to its growing base of storage customers.

"The rapid adoption of Kaminario's products by both customers and partners alike is a clear indication that it is fulfilling a need for high performance, self-healing high availability, and all solid-state SAN storage that has yet to be met by any other solution in the marketplace," said Dani Golan, CEO, Kaminario. "Our collaboration with Fusion-io is yet another step toward raising the bar in delivering best-in-class enterprise SAN storage to businesses struggling to maximize their application performance at a far better price than that of legacy storage."
