Accelerating SAP Performance and Scalability with the Kaminario K2-Hybrid |
By Eyal Markovich
Director of Performance, Kaminario
Slow or unavailable SAP access is business-impacting. While SAP applications frequently consist of multiple tiers, the database tier is the foundation of the system architecture. It is not a surprise that the majority of performance problems with SAP can be traced back to slow database processing. This paper discusses how the Kaminario K2 Flash SSD and DRAM SSD SAN storage can accelerate database performance and, as a result, SAP performance.

The Costs of Performance |
What's an I/O worth to you? That's a hard question for many IT and business professional to begin to consider; yet we often see it bandied about. This paper takes a look at how big the cost of performance is, and with that understanding in mind, we'll look at two examples of new solutions and what they suggest is a changing way to get cost-effective performance inside the data center walls.

Solving Database Performance Problems with Better Storage Performance |
By Dan Kusnetzky, The Kusnetzky Group
Database management systems are some of the most complex pieces of software deployed in an organization’s datacenters. Database performance problems can cause application slow-downs or failures. These, in turn, can cause the organization to lose revenues, lose customers or fail to meet its goals in other ways. This paper discusses how faster storage that reduces latency and improves data throughput can have a direct impact on database performance.

Accelerating Online Transaction Processing Applications through High Performance Storage |
OLTP applications are sensitive to I/O latency mainly because of the logical design and access pattern used to process the queries. OLTP applications are usually highly normalized and contain many tables and indexes. There are many short-running queries that process and return small amounts of data. As a result, most queries will be served by the use of indexes, avoiding large table scans. The use of indexes to access the tables means a high amount of random access to the data (small block size and usually without parallelism). For workloads involving random access without parallelism, I/O latency is the number one factor and can negatively impact data access responsiveness. This white paper discusses how to resolve I/O bottlenecks in OLTP applications.
Startling I/O Performance to Drive Application and Business Value |
By Mark Peters, Enterprise Strategy Group, Inc.
Rather than a band-aid addition to traditional storage architectures like the sprinkling of, say, flash-based SSD cache to improve performance across an entire storage ecosystem, Kaminario K2 is very intentionally designed to provide a different, more thoughtful approach to improve performance across a targeted application ecosystem. This approach addresses the need for a storage performance tier with consistent performance and high availability that is frequently required by businesses for critical applications. It is an elegant solution to a particular challenge and— like all good solutions—it is very easy to understand in concept.

Replication in a High Performance Environment |
In many industries, the replication of a company’s storage is a crucial operational task. It may even define a company’s ability to survive major events. In many cases, replicating data could also be a government regulated action. When it comes to implementing replication for high performance storage, one should take into consideration the many characteristics of replication and the storage it is employed on. The following paper describes what replication is, followed by a discussion on how to implement replication on high performance storage.

The Costs Associated with Building High Availability Solutions Based on PCIe SSD Cards |
The price of storage goes beyond your initial purchase of whatever storage solution you are using. Given that there is an additional cost behind the reliability and resiliency of the storage, then there will be incremental investments to create a high availability (HA) environment to protect your business’ most critical asset: its data. Unfortunately, there are no easy or productive ways to create true high availability solutions when dealing with PCIe SSD cards. In this white paper, we explain the reasons why.
